Behind the Door

We were delighted to be funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs Reconciliation Fund for the Behind the Door Project. This aim of the project was to break down barriers with participants about various organisations with people who they may not have met otherwise. The project took those taking part to various locations such as Orange Order, Royal Black Institition, Armagh Bands Forum, Freemasons and Ancient Order of Hibernians. There were also visits to Croke Park, Iveagh House in Dublin and Dublin Castle.

Iveagh House/Dublin Castle

Participants visited Iveagh House in Dublin which is the Headquarters for the Department for Foreign Affairs and to Dublin Castle. Iveagh House is not a site open for the public on many occasions in the year due it being a working building. We would like to thank the Department for Foreign Affairs for facilitating this visit. We would also like to thank them for helping to arrange an additional visit to Dublin Castle , the participants had an excellent time and learned about the history of the building.

Royal Black Institution

The participants attended the HQ of the Royal Black Institution in Loughgall. Thank you to Sovereign Grand Master, Rev William Anderson for providing the tour and answering any questions.

Croke Park

The participants took a tour of Croke Park and also visited Phoenix Park in Dublin. Thank you to Philip for taking us around the stadium.

Freemasons

The participants visited the Headquarters of the Freemasons in Dublin. This was an excellent tour where Barry explained the history of the Freemason organisation and provided a very informative tour of the building.

Ancient Order of Hibernians

Participants of the Behind the Door project recent visit included a talk regarding the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Thank you Sean for coming to speak to the group it was a very informative presentation.

The Museum of Orange Heritage at Sloans House

The Behind the Door participants attended the second mystery trip to The Museum of Orange Heritage at Sloan’s House. Participants found out about the formation of the Orange Order in 1795 and took a tour of the museum, Thank you Roger for taking the group around the museum , it was very informative.

Armagh Bands Forum

We were delighted to have our first mystery trip of the Behind the Door project funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs Reconciliation fund.

This week we visited Kilcluney Orange Hall where we received a talk from Ivan from Armagh Bands Forum. He discussed the work of the forum and how local marching bands are making a positive impact in the community.

Teambuilding

Participants who were selected on to the project were invited to a teambuilding event at Armagh Palace Stables. Everyone got to know each other a bit better before starting the mystery visits.

Recruitment Information events

2 information events took place one in Markethill and one in Craigavon where those in attendance expressed an interest in the project. Thank you to all who took the time to attend these events to find out more about the project.


