PEACE IV Your History – Your Story

County Armagh Community Development (CACD) is delighted to announce that we have successfully secured funding through the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council PEACE IV Partnership under the Building Positive Relations theme.
 
The project supported by the European Union’s PEACE IV Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB) will engage people on a cross border / cross community basis researching and examining the conflict period 1917 – 1925 and enable them through story gathering methods to consider their own story, background and history and to engage and investigate the story, background and history of others.
 
CACD will be working with the following Partner Organisations, Monaghan Community Network, Drum Development Association and Diversity Challenges to deliver the programme.
 
Match-funding for the project has been provided by the Executive Office in Northern Ireland and the Department of Rural and Community Development in Ireland.

First Meeting of Advisory Group​​

The first meeting of the Partnership Advisory Group was held in Markethill on 9th August with representatives from County Monaghan Community Network, Drum Development Association and Diversity Challenges.  Also in attendance was Ms Noreen O’Callaghan from the PEACE IV Partnership

CACD are hosting an Information Event on Tuesday 27th November at 7.30pm in Castleblaney Community Enterprise Centre, Dublin Road Castleblaney when you are invited to come along and hear more about this project.

Your History – Your Story Workshops commence

Workshops in the “Your History – Your Story” project have commenced in the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council area. Participants are exploring the period 1917 – 1925 enabling them through story gathering methods to consider their own story, background and history and to engage and investigate the story, background and history of others.
The organisers are delighted with the response whilst those taking part say the workshops are both informative and enjoyable

Workshops to commence in County Monaghan Everyone Welcome

Joint Applied Heritage Workshop

A thought provoking evening with a fun element as the group explored what it is like to “walk in other people’s shoes”. The event was captured on film as part of this Peace IV programme. The conclusion of the project will be showcase events in late August. More details to follow. 

Research Study Visit to PRONI

As part of helping participants with research into the history of the period being studied as well as any research into their family history we had an informative visit to the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland.

Showcase Event at Craigavon Civic Centre

The first of our showcase events was held in the Craigavon Civic Centre.  Attendees were welcomed by Mr William Moorcroft, Chairman of CACD, the Deputy Lord Mayor Councillor Margaret Tinsley commended everyone for the work on the Project, funded by Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council Peace Partnership, Mr George Patton, Development Officer with CACD gave an overview of the project and Mr Will Glendinning, Glendinning Consulting told attendees of the concept of Time Travel or Applied Heritage. In essence the project involved role playing around an historical event and a subsequent reflection on the impact it had upon you.  This role play was filmed and attendees at the event then got to see the premiere of the film. 

Special thanks were also given to Ms Noreen O’Callaghan, ABC Council Peace IV Project Officer, Nick Hutchinson and the team at BNL Production for recording and editing the DVD and the people from ABC Council area and Monaghan Council area who joined us on this project. A special word of thanks was also given to the members of the Advisory Committee drawn from Monaghan Community Network, Drum Development Association and our own Management Committee. 

Showcase Event in Monaghan

County Armagh Community Development (CACD) has held a successful showcase event in the Hillgrove Hotel Monaghan on 27th August in the presence of Cllr Seamus Coyle, Cathaorleach of Monaghan County Council
The event highlighted the PEACE IV Project funded through the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council PEACE IV Partnership under the Building Positive Relations theme and was supported by the European Union’s PEACE IV Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).
The project engaged people from Monaghan and Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council areas on a cross border / cross community basis researching and examining the conflict period 1917 – 1925 and using story gathering methods to enable people to consider their and other’s stories, background and history.
As part of the programme an innovative technique called Applied Heritage was utilised to enable participants to engage in role playing in a historical event and to reflect on this and examine their feelings in relation to the present day and this was recorded with the short film shown on the night.

Project Final Showcase in Drum County Monaghan

The last of our Events showcasing our PEACE IV Project was held in Drum County Monaghan on 2nd September.
